Aren’t we the Lucky Ones?
We are living in amazing times at the present moment.
Never, in the whole history of humanity, have human beings experienced the opportunities that we are presented with daily.
We Are All Connected
Two and a half billion people in the world have access to a mobile phone. One and a quarter billion people have online access. We can connect with all these people if we want to.
Ten years ago there was a tipping point in the workplace. Suddenly people had to go online in order to communicate with each other in a professional manner.
Ten years on and technology has moved forward at an astounding rate. The power of the computers and the technology that we use daily is awesome. And at the click of a mouse we have access to virtually as much information and knowledge as has been amassed since civilisations learned to record it.
Extraordinary Developments are Taking Place
Amazing developments are taking place in technology, in medicine, in education and science and in consciousness. We understand so much more now about the consequences of our actions especially in relation to each other and to the environment.
So much knowledge and information is available for us whenever we want it.
Are We Happier?
But are we happier for all this abundance?
Only YOU can answer that question.
Because governments and regulators have interfered so much in daily lives, many people feel powerless and disenfranchised. They are living in fear, terrified and anxious about what the world may hold in store for them.
But what is important to remember is that no government or large organisation can influence how you choose to think.
And once you become an adult, no other person is responsible for your actions – however much you might be tempted to lay the blame elsewhere.
The Duckpond Story
There is an old story about a village duckpond situated by a railway station. Two ducks lived in the pond. They liked their life and sometimes made quite a noise about it.
One morning a tall man with a briefcase passed by and complained to the ticket inspector. ‘Those infernal ducks. They make such a noise so early in the morning. Can’t you get rid of them?’
Later in the morning a mother and school child stopped to throw them some bread. ‘Look at the ducks’ cried the child in delight. ‘They are having such fun.’
An older woman passed by and smiled. ‘Those ducks really cheer me up every day’ she said.
You get the point.
Everything is There for Us
The world is offering us all its bounty. What we choose to make of it is entirely up to us.
Many people who have suffered recent hardship are nevertheless beginning to realise that they can create a better world for themselves. It takes time. It takes help and co-operation. It often needs the kindness of strangers.
But the opportunities are there. Some of us just need help to grab hold of them.
Others of us merely have to stretch out our hands and all the earth’s bounty is available for us. The things that truly make most of us happy are not measured in terms of money.
Together We Can Create the World We Want
All of us are globally connected now, in ways that would have been unimaginable just a few short years ago. We can create whatever world we want for ourselves. As soon as we change our attitude to one of positive openness we shift our thinking and suddenly the possibilities in front of us are thrilling and awe-inspiring.
As the famous cultural anthropologist Margaret Mead said:
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
