Planning for the Unexpected

Posted by Judy Piatkus in Future Trends

January is the time of year when you are likely to plan for the next twelve months either for your  personal life or for your business.

Like many people, you will probably review the events of the past year and  set goals and make resolutions about what you want to achieve in the next twelve months.

But how many of you are also thinking about what is likely to happen in your industry in the next year or two years?

And how many of you are considering what your  friends and family might be doing in the next eighteen or twentyfour months and whether that is also likely to impact on your own life?

When we plan for the future, it is so easy to do this in a vacuum.  But take a little time to think about what is going on around you.

How might national or global events and changes impact on your life or your business?

Is there something you might need to prepare for that you haven’t thought about?

It could be as simple as recognising that the car you plan to buy might also need to be suitable for a learner driver in three years.

Or that the industry you are in is shrinking and that you might want to learn more about what is likely to be taking its place.

Paying attention to trends and changes both at home and at work can help you feel more in control of your life – especially now that we are living in times of such extraordinary volatility.
