If you are 29 years old or younger, social media is not something you ever give a thought to.
It is simply an integral part of how you live your life.
Some people like to communicate by email, some by phone, some by texting and others face to face.
You may use facebook or myspace or ning more than linkedin or you might love or hate twitter.
But if you are under 29, everyone in your increasingly large network is communicating with you in one of those ways so there isn’t really very much to discuss except which method of communication you prefer.
If you are older then 29 you will not have spent your teen and college years using technology and social networks all day.
If you are much older than 29, you might not be using any new technology or social networks and wonder why they are so essential.
However, social networks will be the preferred method of communication in the future because, for the last 10 years, people have been growing up with them.
New technology is giving everyone opportunities to connect with one another – in their social lives and in their business lives – in ways that have never previously been imagined.
Social media might not be something that older people want to get involved with.
But if they want to have a better relationship with younger people, it is the best way to be on the same wavelength!
Privacy is not an issue for younger people.
For them, there is simply nothing to discuss because their whole lives are ‘out there’ and available for anyone they choose to comment on.
In spite of the amazing advances in technology, it is still a fragile system, wholly dependent on the machine you are using actually working.
But as long as machines are able to work in the way they are supposed to – and as long as you keep paying the bills – the future has to be about connecting in this way.
